CURRENT FAVOURITES: JUNE 2014

Monday 7 July 2014

I know this post is a little late as it's already seven days into July but, I wanted to get this in for you guys anyway because I already promised you beforehand - Now, I rarely have any new favourites as I mostly just stick to the same thing over and over, but I realised I've been on the 'oh natural but healthy looking' look lately. I've realised as I've grown through time, not only do I become more mature, but I also have grown into myself where I've learnt to accept my appearances and if I'm truly unhappy with it up to the point that it affects my mood, I work on it like eating healthy (Eating healthy solves all problems - Okay maybe not, but it does help a lot). Since I feel more comfortable, I feel more comfortable in going natural on a day to day basis. Winter is a season of coldness, but it's also the season of sucking the colour and moisture out of you so although this may not seem like a lot to you, it makes the world of a difference. My favourites this month is all about keeping that moisture, shine and colour locked even during Winter.

1. Coconut Oil - Coconut oil had been my saviour in the month of June. I always thought that having oily skin means that I need to scrub away all the oil and not wear moisturiser but I've learnt this is the most untrue thing I've ever thought in my life. Getting all the oils off my face did some serious damage to my skin and it'll probably make me age a hundred times faster (touches wood). It did well when it came to drying out my acne but it did more damage than it did good. My face became dry, irritated to the point where it got red and skin started peeling and obviously at the time, I thought this was a good idea - what was I thinking. Coconut oil has been great at rejuvenating my skin and the most important thing, it smells like a tropical island. Okay, I lied. It does smell like a tropical island but since I also use the oil for cooking, I sometimes feel like I'm being fried/cooked.

2. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light - This powder. This powder is wonderful. I didn't think this product was worth the hype and I didn't think this product was worth the hype when I tried it in store, but I wanted to take a risk on it - I did the right thing. This powder minimises the pores and makes your skin look flawless. I can only imagine what the highlighter  version of this power is like (drools). The powder is so finely milled that it captures light, hence the 'Lighting Powder' title.  As I said before, I've been going for the 'glow from within' and 'oh natural' look lately and this goes great with that theme. This is crazy expensive, but if you get the chance to test it out in store, go try it out (You won't see an effect until you go outside and look in the mirror). You can find it here.

3. Karen Walker Guru Bracelet - I only bought this bracelet a few weeks ago but it's already become one of my favourite jewellery items that I own. This bracelet has small bells on it which, initially I thought was quite obnoxious when I tried it on in store but the other elements outweighed that aspect. It's such a cute, statement bracelet that can be paired with anything. I have to admit, the little 'Guru's' reminds me of Airbender (Take a look at what I mean here) but I really don't mind.

4. L'Occitane Pivoine Flora Shimmering Oil - My Mum came home with this one day and it has been like a magnet to me ever since. This is simple - a beautiful smelling moisturising oil with golden shimmer. As it's gold, it is great at putting some colour into your skin and it's also wonderful at getting the dry patches out of your skin. I absolutely love this for days where I want to show some skin and want to look like I just came back from Hawaii. I've used this for photoshoots a few times and it's absolutely stunning, not to mention the smell is so beautiful that it makes me pumped about the shoot.

5. MAC Strobe Cream - Ah, the infamous Strobe Cream. I've used this product for about 3 months now and it has really been a primer, moisturiser and highlighter all in one. I have a thing for looking dewy and this just goes beautifully with my 'oh natural' and 'glow from within' phase.

6. Scully's Sweet Lip Balm in Rose - This again is something my Mum bought for me a few months ago, it's not your normal lip balm - I'd say it's more of an oil for your lips which sounds quite disgusting but trust me, it's one of the best lip balms I've ever used. The smell, smells like citrusy orange goodness (It's weird because it clearly says 'Rose' on the packaging) - It almost makes me want to eat it. Although it doesn't last as long as those gel or cream based lip balms, It is much less harsher in chemicals and that just adds to the pro's.

7. MAC Blush in Harmony - I'm not too sure if you know this, but I do watch YouTubers like Tanya Burr, Zoella etc (The typical...) occasionally and I came by a video where Tanya Burr does Grace Helbig's makeup. I've always wanted a great contour that doesn't look orange on me and I think I've found the perfect one. This shade can be used as both blush and contour as it does lean a little pink, but neutral brown enough to be a contour - such a genius shade. Speaking of MAC, I think I may have to head into MAC to get the Lorde lipstick... If they're not sold out yet.

I think you've done enough reading for today, yeah? I'm not too sure if this 'Current Favourites' will be a regular thing, but stick around if you like it and it may just be here.
