TWEED IS BETTER THAN TWEET

Tuesday 7 October 2014
Sophie McLean (Red11) wearing Harris Tweed
This editorial started with four inspirations; The movie, 10 Things I Hate About You, Chiaroscuro, Harris Tweed and the latest Chanel S/S15 show. The contrast matches with Chiaroscuro, 10 Things I Hate About You matches the background, Harris Tweed and the latest Chanel Paris Fashion Week show matches with what Sophie McLean (Red11) is wearing. I thought it'd be fun to flip that image of Julia Stiles's character, Kat Stratford into Patrick Verona in a way. If you've seen that film, you'll understand me. My Dad came across Harris Tweed while he was online one day, and since then he had been collecting Harris Tweed coats, what drew him in more was the relation it had with Mr. Bean and Dr. Who - funny, right? I wanted this shoot to reflect all those aspects above, all while having a bit of Ralph Lauren sports vibe to it down the line. I've shot Sophie once already and loved how well she worked, her can-do-anything attitude really stuck to me. Never complaining, humble and professional. The photos are minimal in editing, none, if any. Hair and makeup and photography done by myself // Though I have to give a special credit to an inspirational make up artist that I came across on Instagram a long, long time ago, Ania Milczarczyk, from when she only had a few thousand followers. She's crazy talented and has grown so much since then. Crazy. Full editorial below.

The concept was to create a defined but soft look that would look polished and natural when not in the light. Wanting to still give a flare, I put in some purple messily in the inner part of the eye so that it'd give some edge to the overall look.

Hair details -
Tangle Teezer
Water
Redken Diamond Oil
L'Oreal Professional, Nude touch by Tecniart Pure Texture
L'Oreal Professional, Infinium hair spray

The hair went through different processes. First, the wetting with no hold using plain water. Obviously I am not a hair stylist nor am I a make up artist so I had to do my best to see what would make sense. Tangle Teezer is great at giving a soft and stringy look, starting off by pulling one side of the hair back, holding it with bobby pins and soaking it with water to get the intense water look, then going over it with the Redken Diamond Oil to keep the shine from drying up. I then put L'Oreal Nude touch by Tecniart to give texture and some hold (When used too much, it gets sticky and gritty). I had also added these steps to the ends of the hair to give a stringy look. After this, I sprayed on hairspray, lots of hairspray (L'Oreal Infinium). Repeated on the other side. Again, I wanted this whole look to look polished and clean, however still have an edge to the whole look from certain lights/angles. This is what I came up with.
